Round Lake Beach Man Charged In Attempt To Disarm Officer: Police

According to police, a Round Lake Beach man walked away from the officer and into the roadway before trying to tackle officer to the ground.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — The Round Lake Beach Police Department said a 30-year-old man is being charged with attempting to disarm a police officer stemming from accusations he attacked an officer during a well-being check Sunday in Round Lake Beach. Police said an officer responded to a call regarding a truck parked in the middle of the road in the 900 block of Kenilworth Drive around 8 p.m. and found a person who has been identified as Marcos G. Ortega-Vincente of the above location (N. Kenilworth), slumped over in the truck's driver's seat. Because police said the truck was not running in the cold temperatures, the officer was concerned for the safety of the person, who police also said appeared to be intoxicated when the officer woke him up.

According to police, the officer helped Ortega-Vincente to the door of the home the truck was parked at, hoping to get him inside and ensure his safety. However, Ortega-Vincente couldn't get the door unlocked and open, and walked away from the officer, into the roadway, police said.

The officer then tried to get Ortega-Vincente out of the roadway and back to the home for the man's own safety, police said. However, according to police, Ortega-Vincente is reported to have attacked the officer by trying to tackle him to the ground and grab at the officer's weapon.
