Round Lake Beach Teen Charged In 2018 Warren Township Crash
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said an investigation determined the teen was at fault in the July '18 crash that killed a Grayslake woman.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's Office said a 17-year-old has been charged with improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident as the result of an investigation by Lake County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigators into a July 2018 Warren Township traffic crash that killed a Grayslake woman. The sheriff's office said the investigation found the driver of the 2011 Kia Soul, a 17-year-old from Round Lake Beach, at fault for the traffic crash.
Crash investigators reviewed the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and the juvenile was charged on March 9 with the above charges, the sheriff's office said.
The Grayslake woman killed in the July 28 two-vehicle crash on Route 45 was identified as 70-year-old Katherine Lewis, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined a 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by Lewis, was heading south on Route 45 north of West Cottage Avenue when the teen's Kia Soul crossed the centerline and hit the Toyota head on. Lewis was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, according authorities, adding that the teen was also taken there and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The juvenile's court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m., April 11 in a Waukegan Courtroom, according to the sheriff's office.
