Runner Attacked On Libertyville Trail: Police

The runner sustained minor injuries after two people attacked him Monday night, police said.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Two people attacked a runner on a trail in Libertyville Monday night, police said.

The incident happened at about 9:45 p.m. Monday while the person was running north on the Libertyville Nature Preserve trail — about 500 feet southwest of Newgate Court, according to a news release from the Libertyville Police Department. At that time, two people blocked the runner's path and demanded the runner empty his pockets.

When the runner refused to do so, he was punched by one of the suspects, police said.

The runner was able to "gain the upper hand during the fight" and backed away, heading south away from the suspects, according to the news release.

The runner sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in tracking down the suspects. One of the men is described as being a black male who is about 6-feet, 2-inches tall with longer, unkempt hair with short sides and the other suspect is described as being a 17-year-old black teen who is 5-feet, 7-inches tall with short, thick, unkempt dreadlocks.

The Libertyville Police Department is investigating this incident.
