At approximately 6:30 a.m. today (Thursday), Libertyville High School officials became aware of water leaking into the sub-basement of the school’s art wing. Because there was not enough time to complete a thorough safety check of the school prior to the start of the school day, the administration took precautionary measures and closed the school.

As the rain continues, and water levels continue to rise throughout the Village of Libertyville, so do the water levels in the school’s sub-basement. District 128 will continue to work with first responders and engineers to access the damage. A fire department liaison is remaining on site for the day.

Update, 8:51 a.m.: Libertyville High School is closed today due to water in the school's subbasement, said Mary Todoric, director of communications for District 128.

She said the school is "not sinking or caving in." A dispatch alert had reported a "partial structure collapse" at the high school.

We will provide more information as soon as we get it.
