Skeletal Remains Found Near Illinois Beach State Park

LAKE COUNTY, IL — An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were found near Illinois Beach State Park, police said.

The Zion Police Department on Friday received an anonymous tip regarding the human remains that were found in a wooded area near the entrance of Illinois Beach State Park near Sheridan Road and Wadsworth Road in Beach Park, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded and detectives and deputies processed the scene for evidence, according to the news release. The Lake County Coroner's Office was also called to the scene and took possession of the remains.

It's unclear how long the remains had been there. Authorities also do not yet know the identity, cause and manner of death, police said Monday.

The death remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
