Son Injures Mom, 68, After Hitting Her With Metal Pipe; Police

GURNEE, IL — A 45-year-old man faces charges for allegations he hit his mother with a metal pipe, leaving her with a head injury, police said.

Maurice Freeman, of Gurnee, was taken into custody in the 400 block of North Hunt Club in Gurnee at about 6 p.m. for allegations he attacked his mom, a 68-year-old woman, at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.

The woman sustained a head injury and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover, police said.

Shawn Gaylor, public information officer for the Gurnee Police Department, said Freeman is undergoing a medical evaluation at the hospital. And officers will be meeting with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office Monday "in hopes of obtaining charges in the case."

The incident remains under investigation.
