Teen Injured In Zion Shooting

Police are investigating two shootings that occurred 45 minutes apart Wednesday evening that left a 17-year-old boy injured in Zion.

The Zion Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 2300 block of Joanna Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Officers located 14 shell casings but were unable to locate anyone injured or any damaged property.

Police received a report of another shooting around 45 minutes later at 7:15 p.m. in the 4100 block of Bayside Court. A 17-year-old Zion boy suffered gunshot wounds to both of his legs and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers located 10 shell casings and believe the boy was walking towards the Horizon Village Apartments when he was struck by gunfire. His injuries were non-life-threatening.

Police do not know if the two shootings are related and they both remain under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the Zion Police Department at 847-872-8000.
