MUNDELEIN, IL — A 44-year-old woman faces first-degree murder charges for allegations she fatally stabbed a 53-year-old man early Monday at an apartment complex in Mundelein.
Jeanette Crespo, 44, of the 1400 block of Downing Place in Mundelein, made her initial court appearance Tuesday and is expected to appear for a detention hearing on Wednesday on the murder charges, according to a news release from the Mundelein Police Department.
Crespo is accused of stabbing Michael Murphy to death at the Park Butterfield apartment complex in the 1400 block of Downing Place at about 5:10 a.m. on Monday, authorities said. When police arrived at the scene, they found Murphy, who was unconscious and bleeding from his upper torso.

Authorities believe Crespo, who was also inside the apartment at the time of the stabbing, called 911 to report the incident. She was incoherent and uncooperative with police when they initially tried to talk to her, according to the news release.
Paramedics transported both Crespo and Murphy to Advocate Condell Medical Center where Murphy died shortly after arriving at the hospital, authorities said.
