Woman Posts Pics Of Shoes Bought With Stolen Credit Card On Social Media: Authorities

A 26-year-old woman was charged after she allegedly stole her co-worker’s credit card and used it to buy new Nike shoes at a store in Waukegan. She then posted a photo of the shoes on Facebook, prosecutors said.

Shawntae Davis, 26, of Waukegan, was charged with burglary, identity theft and unlawful possession of a credit card.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lindsay Hicks said during a bond hearing on July 1 that Davis asked her coworker if she could borrow her phone charger. The coworker gave Davis the keys to her car so Davis can get the charger.

The coworker’s purse was in the car and it contained her credit card. Around two hours later, Davis told her coworker she was going to take a break. The victim then left work without seeing Davis, Hicks said.

The victim later received a text alert from her credit card company of a possible fraudulent transaction of $389.70 at a nearby clothing store in Waukegan. Police were notified and obtained surveillance footage from the store.

Davis also posted a photo to Facebook of the new Nike shoes she purchased, Hicks said. The shoes matched what was purchased in the store and police identified Davis as the suspect.

Davis later admitted to police she used her coworker’s credit card to make the purchase and identified herself in the video.

Lake County Judge Raymond Collins set Davis’s bond at $20,000.

She posted bail on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in court on July 12 for a status hearing.
