Blooming at the Zoo: Flower With 1-Day Life Span

There are not just lions, tigers and bears at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

There are acres of prairie and beautiful flowers, especially with all the rain we've had.

One particularly intriguing bloom is the Spiderwort—Tradescantia ohiensis—which is flowering now at the Nature Boardwalk.

Each blue flower lasts one day and has three distinct petals.

The plant species is larger than normal this year, thanks to consistently moist soil, zoo representatives said Tuesday in a post on Facebook.
