Clark Street Gets Shiny New Decorative Bike Racks

Bikers can now ride even happier in Lincoln Park, thanks to a couple new places they'll find along the corridor to secure their cycles.

Parking your bike on Clark Street will now be a little more convenient—and in the spirit of the vibrant neighborhood, aesthetically pleasing.

That's thanks to a joint effort by the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce and Clark Street Special Service Area No. 23.

"Now more than ever alternative transportation solutions are proving popular in major cities across the nation and critical to the success of local commercial districts," Chamber spokesman Padraic Swanton said, in a news release.

The organization installed two full-length bike racks along Clark Street; one in front of Five Guys at Clark and Fullerton and the other, outside the same intersection's Bank of America.

The U-shaped racks are branded "visitclarkstreet.com."

The project includes three individual racks at each site that were, "installed together to create one larger piece."

“The provision of bike racks has been proven to directly increase sales when they are placed directly outside of a local business,” Kim Schilf, LPCC president, said. "The LPCC and Clark Street SSA are thrilled to be able to contribute to the needs of local businesses and bicyclists when it comes to available bike parking."

The last time the chamber and SSA installed bike racks was in 2011, when more than two dozen were added along the Clark Street corridor.
