Clark Street Korean Barbecue Out, Thai-Mexican Joint In

An ethnic restaurant on Clark Street will soon become a new, even more unique ethnic restaurant. The venture is the brainchild of those behind nearby eatery, Oodles of Noodles, sources said Wednesday.

What was once a Korean barbecue on Clark Street will soon become a Thai-Mexican hybrid serving up imaginative dishes some have likely never heard of.

A "Thai Burrito" restaurant will set up shop soon at 2437 N. Clark St., where Galbi City was formerly located. The eatery closed its doors at the end of May and is currently working on a build-out at "another location nearby which we will announce shortly," according to a bulletin to customers.

The windows to the restaurant remained brown bagged on Wednesday but a message scrawled using a blue paint pen gave passersby a clue about what's to come.

"Oodles of Noodles is adding a twist of Mexican," it said. "Traditional Thai dishes will still be served, but we will have a new name and concept. Coming soon—Thai Burrito."

An employee with Oodles of Noodles—located just down the street at 2500 N. Clark St.—said Wednesday that she wasn't sure whether the name to the new restaurant would officially be Thai Burrito.

Many details are still being determined, she said, but the new endeavor will likely have a build-your-own stir fry bar. It's also rumored to offer a Mexican breakfast on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
