Goose Island's Landlord is 'Sorry to See a Long-Term Tenant Go'

A controversy is brewing at Lincoln Park's Goose Island Brewpub, where the landlord is saying that after 25 years, the business' stint there has come to an end.

The landlord for Lincoln Park's Goose Island Brew Pub says lease negotiations are not moving forward.

At least that's what Chicago Real Estate Daily is reporting, saying a dispute about rent at the 1800 N. Clybourn Ave. bar is at a stalemate. It's the second time in the past five years the landlord and tenant have been in conflict.

Deerfield-based CRM Properties Group Ltd. owns the property.

“We're sorry to see a long-term tenant go,” Chris Siavelis, senior vice president at the company, said in the Chicago Real Estate Daily story. “It's never something we want to have happen. However it is a business. We were simply looking to get closer to market rents in this latest negotiation.”

The owners of the brewery were recently hoping for a 30 percent reduction in rent. The bar has been there since 1988.
