Locals Flock to Former Hospital Site to Celebrate Lincoln Avenue LIVE
The first-ever Lincoln Avenue LIVE street festival brought music, dancing, food and drinks over the weekend to a once-bustling section of the corridor.
Lincoln Avenue LIVE breathed life this past weekend to an area that has suffered the effects of a once-bustling hospital that now stands vacant.
The first-ever street festival was held in the shadows of the controversial former Children's campus, which has moved to Streeterville and is now called the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
The event featured two musical stages, arts and crafts, food and drinks. Its focus was on the neighborhood's "local first" mantra. Local bars and restaurants were the premiere vendors.
"The idea really originated as a way to support the Lincoln Park community; most notably, the businesses surrounding Children's Memorial," Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce President Kim Schiff said, when Patch broke the news of the inaugural fest in March. "There is a loss of about 4,000 visitors a day to that block ... with that in mind, we really wanted to create a source of support and valuable foot traffic."
