"This began over an altercation inside the Ulta Beauty store," Brown said at a news conference.
Brown said a person in the store called police after seeing someone acting erratic. The person struggled with the officer and eventually the fight extended into the parking lot, where police said the person fired three shots at the officer, hitting him once.

According to police, a second officer was able to respond to the scene quickly due to increased patrol in the area. Burglaries and other incidents were the cause for extra patrols, Brown said.
Police said the shooting occurred at around 3:30 p.m. near a shopping center at North and Sheffield avenues.
Lightfoot said CPD Superintendent David Brown had responded to the shooting.
