Chicago Police Host Multi-Culture Festival

The 20th District of the Chicago Police Department hosted a multi-culture festival with Irish dancers and martial arts specialists.

Lincoln Square residents took a tour around the world Thursday night at the Chicago Police Department's 20th District headquarters.

Irish dancers joined forces with martial arts and Nordic folk to entertain more than 50 members of the community.

Eight acts performed at the police department and the night culminated in a feast from the different areas of the world represented.

Lynda Arredondo, 16, said she volunteered last year for the event and helped organize the efforts this year.

More than 15 students from the area's schools volunteered at the multi-culture fest.

"Most people think their cultures are so different, but there are many more similarities than differences," said Paul Muhr of the Nordic Folk Dancers. "The rhythms, footwork and food have similarities."
