McPherson Elementary Gets 600 New Books from Generous Donor

Projé Inc., a corporate sponsor of the We Save Lives Foundation, presented the books to students at the school on Friday.

Students’ eyes lit up like it was Christmas when they walked into the library at McPherson Elementary School on Friday. There, displayed for all to see, were more than 600 new books in English and Spanish.

The We Save Lives Foundation (WSL) donated the books to the school through their corporate sponsor, Projé Inc. The donation totaled more than $6,500 and on Friday, employees visited the school.

“They were so excited,” said Susan Hoffman with Projé Inc. “Everyone was so grateful, the teachers and especially the librarians, they were so emotional about it.”

The employees read to students in their classrooms Friday morning and saw firsthand the effect of their donation.

“It was just really meaningful to see them so excited about the books,” Hoffman said. “They can borrow books from the library and build a solid foundation and a love of reading.”

Projé Inc. is a technical consulting company and originally thought about donating iPads. But after talking to Principal Carmen Mendoza, the best thing the company could give were old-fashioned, spine and ink books.

McPherson parents Jacob and Francis Jesson helped coordinate the effort. Jacob is an employee of Projé Inc. and Francis spoke with Mendoza about the school’s needs. The two have a first-grader at the school.

“Even though they’re a great school, there’s so much need that there’s still room for more help,” Hoffman said.

The 569 English language and 87 Spanish language books are now in the library for students to borrow.
