Chicago restaurants and their chefs garnered 15 nominations for the 2022 James Beard Awards, following a tumultuous two years for the industry.

The nods were fewer than in years past, when more than two dozen restaurant professionals from the city landed on the semifinalist list. It also follows a year in which many award ceremonies were put on hold or altered in some other way, as COVID-19 restrictions forced restaurants to close or switch to carry-out for months on end.
