Lincoln Square Garden to Receive $30,000 Irrigation System
The City Council voted to approve the system, along with other open space projects around the city.

Lincoln Square's Gateway Garden will have a new irrigation system, thanks to the City Council's approval vote on Oct. 3.
The irrigation system, totaling $30,000, was part of several improvements to gardens throughout the city. The garden is located at 5331 North Ravenswood Avenue.
“In addition to beautifying their respective communities, public gardens provide a place for community stakeholders to work together, to socialize, and to foster a spirit of cooperation,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a release from the city.

The improvements are financed through Open Space Impact Fees, which are collected from new residential developments to improve Chicago's open spaces.
The release states that the fees will also finance improvements to neighborhood gardens throughout the City, including:

- Englewood’s Sherwood Peace Garden, 257 W. 61st St., where $9,800 will be allocated for growing beds and related construction costs.
- The Lower West Side’s Growing Station, 945 W. 21st St., where $7,000 will pay for a storage shed and perimeter fencing.
- Fleming School, by Chicago Midway International Airport, will have plants, outdoor seating and artwork. Students and teachers, along with the community, will maintain the new garden.
