Lincoln Square Greekfest Promises $10K Cash Prize Raffle

Lincoln Square will turn into a cultural Mecca this weekend with a Greek festival, battle of the bands and Shakespeare.

St. Demetrios Church Greek Festival

For 64 years, Chicago Greekfest has been held in Lincoln Square, combining authentic Greek cuisine and entertainment.  

The festival runs Friday through Sunday at 2727 W. Winona Ave. Hours Friday and Saturday are 5 to 11 p.m. and 12 p.m. to midnight on Sunday.

Participants are also eligible to win cash attendance prizes up to $10,000.

Gateway to Learning Battle of the Bands

Three bands will compete for bragging rights in this Gateway to Learning fundraiser. 

Listen to Harmonious Funk, Uptown Shakedown and Esso Afrojam Funkbeat Saturday at the Phyllis' Musical Inn, 1800 W. Division St. 

Tunes start at 3 and go until 8:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door. 

In July, the training center for adults with disabilities learned it might have to close because of delayed state funding.  

Shakespeare in the Park

Two performances of "The Comedy of Errors" hit Lincoln Square this weekend. The play begins 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Welles Park gazebo.

Yoga Rocks the Park

Take the whole family for a yoga session Sunday morning that features live music in a serene environment. 

Starting at 9 a.m. and lasting 75 minutes, this session is built for all levels of experience. Tickets are $15 at the park, 5385 N. Bowmanville Ave.
