All of the spirit and pep couldn’t help the Amundsen High School football team as they fell 30-0 Friday at Homecoming against Steinmetz College Prep.
“You always wish for better, but it happens, we’ll be ok. Steinmetz is a solid team,” coach Grant Jones said.

The conditions were tough on Friday. The field turned into a muddy pit after several inches of rain this week.
“What we tried to do was keep Steinmetz on a shorter field,” Jones said. “We knew they would run to the grass and we tried to defend the grassier areas, but it’s tough slipping all over the place.”

The coach said he was just happy to get through the game without any injuries.
Steinmetz scored twice in the first quarter and completed two 2-point conversions. Another touchdown and conversion came in the third, and one more touchdown topped it off in the fourth.
The Vikings went 1-8 on the season, which ended on Friday. With two juniors at the quarterback position, Jones said they’d be a solid team next year.
