4 Arrested In Connection With Lisle Catalytic Converter Theft: PD

Three of the Chicago men have been charged and police are investigating whether the four are involved in other suburban thefts of car parts.

LISLE, IL — Three Chicago men have been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a catalytic converter that may be connected to other recent similar incidents in Lisle and surrounding suburbs, police said on Monday.

The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Rashaad Pipes, 29, Devonte Weekley, 28, and Marquise Dye, 28, in the theft which took place on Saturday, Lisle police said. Charges are pending against a fourth suspect and an investigation is ongoing to see if the four men are connected to other catalytic converted thefts, police said.

The three men were charged with the theft of essential motor parts, which is a Class 2 felony.

Wheaton Police said last week that eight thefts of catalytic converters were reported in Wheaton last week alone and that there has been a rash of similar incidents in surrounding areas.

Police said Monday that that Woodridge Police received a 911 call at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday regarding a suspicious noise. The caller reported hearing a power tool being used under a parked vehicle in the 8300 block of Route 53, police said.

Before police could arrive, the caller said that they saw someone taking a catalytic converter from the vehicle and then leaving in a dark-colored sedan, police said. Woodridge Police later spotted the vehicle on Route 53 near Lisle and contacted Lisle Police to stop the vehicle.

Police said that the car initially stopped near the intersection of Route 53 and Maple Road, but that it sped away from officers. The sedan was then seen speeding up an exit ramp in the wrong direction at Ogden Avenue before police stopped the vehicle in the 1500 block of Ogden Avenue.

Four men ran from the vehicle but were quickly apprehended by police. A catalytic converter was found in the car as was a reciprocating saw and multiple saw blades, police said. Police believe the men were involved in the theft of a catalytic converter in Lisle on Friday, police said.
