• Harlem School District announces next steps for addressing a multimillion dollar deficit following a proposed consolidation plan (wrex.com) — Harlem School District in Machesney Park is reworking its plan to close two elementary schools after strong community pushback, even as it faces a budget deficit of more than $3 million. Following canceled public hearings and a tense board meeting Monday, leaders now have until January 20, 2026, to craft a new proposal that avoids tax hikes and keeps families in the area.
