Multiple People Steal From Berkot's: Police
The theft happened Tuesday morning in Manhattan.
MANHATTAN, IL — The Village of Manhattan Police Department is investigating a retail theft at Berkot's Super Foods in Manhattan, according to Manhattan Police Chief Jeff Wold. The theft happened at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wold said.
Multiple people were involved in the theft, Wold said. Police have interviewed several witnesses and investigators are following up with those witnesses, Wold said. Wold declined to provide any additional details about the theft, citing that the case was ongoing.
An eyewitness told Patch that the thieves were walking up and down the aisles and went toward the back of the store. The eyewitness went to the checkout line, then heard an employee yelling "They're stealing! They're stealing!" from the back of the store. The eyewitness then saw the thieves walking out of the store with a large amount of meat and other items tucked into their jackets and under their arms.
