11,000 Pounds Of Pet Food Donated To Mokena's NAWS
Plainfield-based TR Miller Heating, Cooling and Plumbing ran a food drive, donating 10 pounds of food for every $89 A/C tune-up.

MOKENA, IL — Mokena's NAWS has been gifted 11,000 pounds of pet food, courtesy of a Plainfield business.
On Friday, July 19 TR Miller Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing dropped off 5,000 pounds of pet food to the humane society—just the first half of the total donation.
In April, TR Miller announced a food drive that would add 10 pounds of pet food for every $89 A/C Tune-Up the company performed from April 15 to July 31.

The donation is important to the business' owners, brothers Brian and Jim Sloan. Their mother volunteered frequently at local animal shelters, until her death following a cancer battle last year.
"My brother and I always joked that our mom loved animals more than people, so I don’t think there is a better way to honor her legacy than through working with NAWS," said Brian Sloan, owner of TR Miller.

The 11,000 pounds raised was such a large donation that NAWS is not able to store it all, and the remaining 6,000 pounds will be distributed as needed. In addition to the donation, a team of 15 TR Miller team members and family spent a Saturday volunteering at NAWS.
Between their facility and foster family network, NAWS has nearly 900 cats and dogs in their program. They are 100 percent no-kill, and many of their animals are rescued from shelters that do euthanize throughout the region.
"This whole partnership with TR Miller has been very beneficial for us because keeping expenses down is a huge thing for not-for-profits and food is a big one,” said Becca Keller, Director of Development at NAWS. "Keeping the animals fed and thriving until they get onto their new home is so important."
TR Miller and NAWS plan to continue the program in the future.
