35 Mokena Residents Complete Chicago Marathon

MOKENA, IL — Mokena residents were well represented in the 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, with 35 runners who listed the village as their home town, according to unofficial results on the BoA Chicago Marathon website.

The top finishers from Mokena were Gary Andruch with a time of 3:37:37 and Marissa Latko with a time of 3:39:49.

Ethiopia's Seifu Tura Abdiwak took the top spot with a time of 2:06:12. Ruth Chepngetich, of Kenya, was the top female finisher with a time of 2:22:31. The top Americans were Galen Rupp (2:06:35, 2nd place overall) in the men's division and Emma Bates (2:24:20, 26th place overall) in the women's division.

The grueling 26.2-mile race drew approximately 33,000 participants from all over the globe.
