Dog Attack In Mokena Leaves Another Dog Dead: Police

A pit bull went into a neighboring yard Wednesday, attacking and killing another family's dog.

MOKENA, IL — A dog managed to get out of its yard in the 10700 block of Fintan Court Wednesday and kill another family's dog that lived two houses down, according to Mokena Police Department Commander Randy Stumpf.

The attacking dog, a pit bull named Chaos, killed Cali, who belonged to the Gavin family, also of the 10700 block of Fintan Court. Two of the Gavins' daughters and another relative witnessed the attack, Stumpf said. The pit bull then proceeded to try and attack the daughters and relative.

Michelle Cara, the owner of the pit bull, was issued a dog at large citation. The incident is still under further investigation, Stumpf said.

The pit bull was taken by Animal Control. A court hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Frankfort Township Old Hall Courthouse, 11008 W. Lincoln Highway in Frankfort.
