Get Out Into The Great Outdoors With Forest Preserve Events
The Forest Preserve District of Will County has plenty of activities for Mokena residents, even as the temperature starts to dip.
MOKENA, IL — Cold weather is creeping in, but that doesn't mean Mokena residents have to stop enjoying the great outdoors. The Forest Preserve District of Will County has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts this time of year.
Here's a look at the activities the Forest Preserve District of Will County has lined up in Mokena in the coming days and weeks.
Work Off the Turkey Workday: 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hickory Creek Preserve – LaPorte Road Access. Feeling stuffed after all that stuffing? Sign up for a Forest Preserve District volunteer workday to burn off some of your Thanksgiving feast. RSVP to Volunteer Services Coordinator Emily Kenny at 815-722-7364 or email ekenny@fpdwc.org. Work will take place on uneven terrain that is primarily natural surface. All ages are welcome; youth are encouraged to attend when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Woods Walk Celebration: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at Hickory Creek Junction. Celebrate the conclusion of the Forest Preserve District’s 2021 “Woods Walk” program with doughnuts and drinks and meet fellow “Woods Walk” enthusiasts. Attendees will also share their hiking experiences and learn more about this annual program. Everyone is invited, whether you hiked all 10 highlighted trails, just a few or none at all. Drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Free for all ages.
Soup-er Chili – Hike to the Bridge: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 4 at Hickory Creek Junction. Bring your favorite mug and a can of soup or chili to this Forest Preserve District program. The food will simmer on an open flame as the group hikes to the bridge. Once back, enjoy a piping hot mug of stick-to-your-ribs comfort food and a campfire. Free, ages 10 or older. Register online or call 708-946-2216.
