How Mokena Runners Fared In The 2023 Boston Marathon
Marissa Latko paced the Mokena competitors who were among the 30,000 marathon participants with a finish of 3 hours, 32 minutes, 3 seconds.

MOKENA, IL — Despite rainy and less than ideal conditions, three runners from Mokena completed the 127th edition of the Boston Marathon on Monday. Held annually on Patriots' Day, this year's race featured more than 30,000 athletes from more than 100 countries.
Evans Chebet, of Kenya, became the first man to win back-to-back races since 2008 with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 54 seconds. Hellen Obiri, also of Kenya, was the top female runner at 2:21:38. In addition, Marcel Hug, of Switzerland, broke the course record in the male wheelchair division with a time of 1:17:06. Susannah Scaroni, of the United States, was No. 1 in the female wheelchair division at 1:41:45.

Monday's race marked the 10th anniversary since the Boston Marathon bombing, in which three people were killed and hundreds were injured during the race.
According to race officials, 30,239 participants entered the race, including 17,272 men, 12,940 women, and the first-ever designation of non-binary entrants with 27. All 50 states were represented, as well as 106 countries.
