Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Metra Train In Mokena: Police

The Metra crossing at Schoolhouse Road and Front Street was blocked off to traffic Friday afternoon following the incident.

MOKENA, IL — A pedestrian who was struck by a Metra train Friday in Mokena has died, according to a Metra spokesperson.

The person who was killed was identified only as a female who was walking along the section of railroad tracks between the Schoolhouse Road and Front Street crossings in Mokena. No other information about her was immediately available, Metra said.

Gates were down and traffic was being redirected at the crossing at Schoolhouse Road and Front Street as of 3:15 p.m. A heavy Mokena police presence was visible in the area, and a train was seen stopped on the tracks at the crossing.

Mokena PD is asking motorists to avoid the area.

Metra was redirecting trains through the area Friday afternoon, but heavy delays for passengers on the Rock Island line are expected.

This is the second incident in Mokena in the past month involving a Metra train and the death of a pedestrian. Orland Park resident John Greenan, 53, was hit and killed by a Metra train Aug. 31 when he was walking along the railroad tracks near 191st Street and LaGrange Road.
