Man Fires Gun At Women, Later Arrested: Police

Police said they arrested a Lockport man who shot at two women who refused to help him get his vehicle out of a creek in Mokena.

MOKENA, IL — Police arrested a Lockport man Wednesday who fired a gun at two women who refused to help him get his vehicle out of the mud, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Haramija, 36, of Lockport, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.

At approximately 11:24 p.m. Tuesday, Will County sheriff's deputies responded to a call for shots fired in the in the 12000 block of Whisper Creek Way in Mokena, according to police. While en route, the deputies were told that the caller heard about nine shots in the field behind the caller's residence and saw a man in the area of the creek bed there, police said.

The Mokena Police Department also responded to the call.

Upon arrival, officers saw a Nissan Xterra stuck in the creek. Its owner, Haramija, had left the scene, police said.

Police were able to identify Haramija as the owner of the vehicle through the vehicle's registration number and later through the description given to police by the two women whom Haramija is accused of shooting at, police said.

According to the women, while they were walking near the creek they saw the Nissan Xterra stuck in the mud, police said. A man, whom police identified as Haramija, approached the women and asked them to help him get his truck out of the mud, police said. The women told him they wouldn’t help him, and Haramija pulled out a firearm and fired four to six shots in the their direction and into the nearby tree line, at which point the women fled and called 9-1-1, police said.

At approximately 4:23 a.m. Wednesday, Mokena police saw a Chevy Silverado in the same area, and found Haramija using the Silverado to try and pull the Xterra from the mud, police said. Officers then detained and questioned Haramija. Officers found shell casings on the creek bed and near the vehicle and Will County Sheriff's deputies arrested Haramija, police said.
