Meijer Brings 250 New Jobs to the L-W Communities

The Mokena-based Meijer Supercenter development is on track to bring in new jobs and fresh revenue.
, said the Meijer development, slated for location at the Mokena Marketplace retail center at the southwest corner of Route 30 and Wolf Road, is expected to generate $750,000 in fresh Village sales tax revenue.
In addition, another $150,000 is expected to filter into the coffers at Mokena School District 159 in the form of property tax revenue, said Zoellner.

The 190,000-square-foot supercenter is estimated to cost approximately $15 million. Meijer purchased the 17.5 acres of land not long after the property improvement for Mokena Marketplace was completed in 2007.
Part of the good news in this development story is the fact that an estimated 250 jobs are anticipated from this single store. It's an economic boon to the overall economy in the Lincoln-Way communities, he said.

Shortly after the announcement from the Village of Mokena, New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann commented that any good development in this region is a positive sign. Whether it be located in the confines of New Lenox, Frankfort or Mokena, it makes for a healthier Lincoln-Way region. Not only are the jobs seen as an opportunity for the whole area, Meijer is going to attract more consumers to the region.
Once they're at Route 30, they're more likely to shop in stores up and down the Route 30 Corridor.
