Mission Meals Set To Host Drive Thru Dinner

MOKENA, IL — The Mission Meals Program announced it will host its next drive-thru meal pick-up event from 4-6 p.m. Dec. 2 at EggCetera Cafe, 19709 Mokena St. in Mokena. Participants will need to have a reservation and a drive-thru time. Reservations can be made by calling 708-479-6613 or by email at grantseeker@sbcglobal.net.

Mission Meals provides food and other essentials to more than 200 families per month, according to Tammy Leonard, founder of One Love Global Wellness Foundation, the nonprofit organization under which Mission Meals operates.

Since March 2020, Mission Meals has distributed more than 28,500 pounds of food, she said. Mission Meals also provides information on nutrition, job seeking strategies and counseling, as well as providing resources for assistance in housing, employment, utility bill and prescription medication, Leonard said.

In addition to the drive-thru meal program, which had been a sit-down dinner prior to the pandemic but made the switch to help protect the people the program serves, Mission Meals on the Street provides homeless people in the community with "Blessing Bags" containing food, toiletries, socks, gloves, band aids, first aid kits and blankets in sturdy, waterproof bags, Leonard said. Mission Meals on the Street also provides information on shelters and other assistance programs, Leonard said.

One Love Global Wellness Foundation is based in Orland Park and serves the communities of Mokena, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Homer Glen, Joliet, New Lenox, Frankfort, Richton Park and Oak Lawn.
