Mokena D159 Revises Return To School Plan

The District updated its plan to include the state-wide mask mandate issued by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena School District 159 Board of Education unanimously approved a revision to its return to school plan at its Wednesday meeting. The plan was updated to include the mask mandate issued Aug. 4 by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for all Illinois schools and daycares.

The District's return to school plan also includes additional steps it will take to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, including:

  • Promoting vaccination.
  • Requiring consistent and correct mask use.
  • Physical distancing.
  • Hand washing and respiratory etiquette.
  • Staying home when sick and getting tested.
  • Contact tracing, in combination with isolation and quarantine.
  • Cleaning and disinfection.

"These COVID-19 prevention strategies remain critical to protect people, including students, teachers, and staff, who are not fully vaccinated, especially in the event of sustained moderate-to-high community transmission levels," the updated plan reads. "In the event that COVID-19 transmission is low in our local community the District may consider removing one prevention strategy at a time while monitoring for any outbreaks or increases in COVID-19 cases."
