Mokena Runners Finish 2023 Chicago Marathon
Mokena's Gary Andruch, who finished the marathon in 3:13.26, and Marissa Latko, 3:17.54, were the top local finishers in Sunday's event.
CHICAGO — In an edition filled with broken records, the 45th running of the Chicago Marathon on Saturday featured more than 47,000 runners, including a number of local Mokena competitors. Race officials said it was the most runners to ever finish the 26.2-mile race.
Kelvin Kiptum, of Kenya, was the top male and overall finisher, clocking the first sub-2:01 marathon in an officially sanctioned competition with a world record time of 2 hours and 35 seconds. Sifan Hassan, of the Netherlands, set a new course record on the women's side with a time of 2:13:44.
In addition, Marcel Hug, of Switzerland, broke his own record set in last year's wheelchair race with a time of 1:22:37. Catherine Debrunner, also of Switzerland, set a new course record for women in the wheelchair division with a time of 1:38:44.

In addition, an Evanston runner, competing in her first marathon, became the 1 millionth finisherin Chicago Marathon history.
