Flaming Trash, Stolen Cough Syrup and a Pot Bust: Police Blotter

MONDAY, April 30

Man Jumps Counter, Steals Codeine Cough Syrup

At 8:15 p.m. an unidentified suspect jumped over the pharmacy counter at CVS Pharmacy, 19900 S. La Grange Road, and took three and a half bottles of Promethazine with Codeine cough syrup, valued at $145.99. The man then jumped back over the counter and ran out of the business and drove off in a silver four-door car. No arrests were made.

Zebra Clutch Stolen at 191 South

Some time between midnight and 2 a.m. a black and white zebra clutch was stolen from along the north wall of 191 South, 10160 W. 191st St. The victim told police that she left her clutch, which contained her car key, on the table her party was at and when she returned it was gone. Police noted that her car was still in the parking lot when they arrived, but did not locate the clutch.

Hot Garbage

Police and the Mokena Fire Protection District responded to a call about a dumpster fire at about 9 p.m. The fire, which was the second such incident in three weeks at Maggs Glazing Contractors, 19820 S. Wolf Road, was extinguished without incident. The owner of Maggs told police he didn't know of anybody who would want to set fire to his dumpster.

Marijuana, Speeding Arrest

Kevin J. Lanigan, 29, of the 11100 block of 188th Place, was cited for possession of less than 30 grams of cannabis, driving without insurance and speeding after being a traffic stop in the 18900 block of 104th Ave. Officers reportedly stopped Lanigan after he was spotted doing 40 mph in a 30 mph zone. Officers asked Lanigan if there was anything “illegal” in the car and Lanigan admitted to having $180 worth of weed in the center console. He was cited and released on bond and scheduled to appear in court June 30.
