Rt. 30 Update: A Look at Traffic Tickets in the Construction Zone

Mokena, Frankfort and New Lenox police aren't messing around when it comes to obeying the rules along the construction route of Route 30. How do Mokena's stats stack up to New Lenox and Frankfort?

officers have stopped 51 motorists along Route 30 from January 1 through April 30, according to Commander Dan Rankovich. Rankovich said that of the 52 stops, 33 were verbal warnings and 19 were traffic citations issued in the construction zone, which runs about nine-tenths of a mile through Mokena.

The long-awaited Route 30 project, , involves reconstructing the roadway, building a second lane in both directions and adding a raised concrete median for 9 miles through New Lenox, Mokena and Frankfort.

The finished project will also feature several new traffic signals, new curbs and water drainage systems, bike paths and sidewalks, and sound-dampening walls in certain areas. The changes are budgeted at $73 million, with the Village of Mokena kicking in $69,000.

The project is expected to be completed by late summer or early fall of this year, according to the Village's website.
