Random Acts Of Kindness Day 2022: Mokena Neighbors Give Thanks

Patch asked Mokena readers, "What's the nicest thing a neighbor has done for you?" Here are some of the responses we got.

MOKENA, IL — Thursday is Random Acts of Kindness Day. Mokena residents on social media are likely to see their feeds full of #MakeKindnessTheNorm, the theme for this year.

Patch asked Mokena residents on Facebook, "What's the nicest thing a neighbor has done for you?" A few of the responses we got were so inspirational that we thought we'd share them with you, dear readers.

  • CJ Wahl: So much we can’t keep track. They have been the most amazing neighbors we have ever had! We feel blessed to call their entire family our friends.
  • Jeanne Matug: Gets my mail, takes my garbage out! Could not ask for better neighbors!
  • Gail Hoffman Bastas: Snow plowing our driveway when on vacation and snow blowing during last snow.
  • Susan Newkem: When we moved from our last home a neighbor supplied all the moving boxes that we needed. The day of our move, they sent their kids over to help.
  • Julienne Orszulak: Shoveling my driveway while I was away!
  • Di Pierce: Plowing our driveway.

The Denver-based Random Acts of Kindness Foundation's first RAK Day was in 1995. The small nonprofit's initiative caught on, was celebrated in New Zealand by 2004 and has since been celebrated around the world as a way for people to show kindness to others in small, simple ways.
