Sunrise Photo Takes Forest Preserve Top Spot For July

MOKENA, IL — A photo of the sun rising through the trees at Hickory Creek Preserve - LaPorte Road access was recognized by the Forest Preserve District of Will county as the top shot in July.

The photo was taken by Crete resident Byron Morgan, according to a news release from the District.

"This is a picture taken shortly after sunrise just before the first parking area as you go into the Hickory Creek Preserve at the LaPorte Road access," Morgan was quoted in the release."I found this beautiful scene on June 12, but I did not think my pictures that day did it justice. I went back on sunny July 5 to try again, and I'm glad I did. I never think my landscape pics are as good as the scene looks in person, but that doesn't stop me from trying."

The photo contest runs through December with winners chosen monthly. All entrants receive a participation gift. Monthly winners receive a $75 Visa gift card. Overall contest winners will receive gift cards of $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $150 for third place.
