Village Deals with Leaky Pipes with Annual Survey
The yearly check of all of the Village's water pipes is underway, with utilities crews out in the village, checking for—and repairing—any and all leaks.

Mokena residents may have noticed Mokena Water and Sewage workers out and about in their neighborhoods over the past few days, checking fire hydrants, drains and other water related devices.
The checks were part of Mokena's annual water distribution leak survey, which began May 1 and is scheduled to run for approximately two weeks, according to the Village's website.
Mokena Utilities Superintendent Craig Heim said that the survey, which is done every year, is performed to find any leaks in the system that don't show on the surface.

“Every hydrant and water valve will be used as a listening point to identify leaks,” Heim said. “When a leak is detected, a correlation will be used to verify the existence of the leak as well as to pinpoint it. Any leaks discovered are immediately dug up and repaired.”
Heim added that the initial cost of doing the yearly survey is offset by the money the Village saves by not having major repair issues later in the year.
