Careful with that Sprinkler! Village Sets Voluntary Watering Restrictions
On June 11, the Village of Mokena put out a call to residents to reduce outdoor watering consumption by one-third. If the proper steps are not taken, the Village will then move towards mandatory restrictions.

has issued a voluntary water conservation notice, asking residents to cut back on outdoor water usage by one third. Mokena went into the “Yellow Zone,” on June 11, which is one step away from mandatory water restrictions throughout the village.
According to the Village's website, the “Yellow Zone,” is implemented when:

- Continual hot, dry weather conditions exist and;
- Daily consumption trends move upward reducing necessary water system storage reserves and;
- Forecasted weather conditions are likely to continue or worsen.
Normal watering schedules are done on an “odd/even” basis from May 15 through Sept. 15, meaning residents living in odd-numbered houses may water their lawns from 7 to 11 a.m. and in the evening hours and vice versa for even-numbered homes.
What You Need to Do in the 'Yellow Zone':

- Skip your next scheduled watering.
- Water regularly for the next two.
- Skip the following one.
If residents cooperate and follow protocols, no further restrictions will be implemented.
If the “Yellow Zone,” does not work, the next step would be mandatory water restrictions throughout the village, which would then be placed in the “Orange Zone.” This would mean no evening watering throughout the village.
In dire circumstances, a “Red Zone” may be put into place, meaning that there would only be one watering day per week, still on the odd/even basis.
