Village Readies for Spring Clean-Up Day
Rain or shine, Mokena's 22nd Spring Clean-Up Day is set for Saturday, April 21. Residents looking to pitch in should be sign up at the Village Hall before 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Springtime means spring cleaning, and the is once again calling on residents to get in the the act throughout the village with the Village's 22nd annual Spring Clean-Up Day. Residents will pitch in by planting trees and wildflowers and cleaning up various spots throughout the village April 21 from 8 a.m. to noon.
“We have Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, school people, individuals, VFW people, it's just really neat how everybody comes together,” said Marietta K. Glass, Village Department Secretary.
Kicking off at the , residents taking part will split up into various groups and then scatter throughout the village in public works vehicles. Glass added that one group will also plant trees at the three grade schools in the village and one group will plant wild flowers at the two wild flower lots in the village.

“Each truck has three areas that they visit during that time, from 9 a.m.-noon,” Glass said. “They just go clean up all debris that's thrown or blown. Things that people threw in there, like old tires, anything, we just clean it all up.”
Glass said after the clean up, groups will return to the village hall at noon for a lunch, which is sponsored by the Mokena VFW Post 725. The lunch will feature hot dogs and chips, with members of the Mokena Village Board on hand as well.

Those interested in participating should sign up at the village hall before 9 a.m. on Saturday and bring their own work gloves to the event.
