Woman Killed In New Year's Crash, Mokena Officer Hurt Responding: Cops
Police said the woman died after she hit a car from behind near I-80 and that the officer was involved in another crash heading to the crash

MOKENA, IL — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday night after police said the woman hit another vehicle from behind after the other vehicle had stopped at an intersection, police said on Monday.
Police have not released the identity of the woman, who police said hit the stopped vehicle at the intersection of Interstate 80 and La Grange Road Sunday evening. Police officers arrived at the scene of the crash to find first responders performing CPR on the driver of the second vehicle, Mokena Police Chief Brian Benton said on Monday.
The Lincoln Way Major Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene and reconstructed the accident, Benton said. La Grange Road was closed until 10:30 p.m. Police have not released further information about what could have caused the crash.

In a separate crash, a Mokena Police officer was injured when the officer was involved in an accident with another vehicle while responding to the La Grange Road accident, Benton said. That crash took place at 191st Street and La Grange Road and both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital for their injuries.
