Aurora Man Dead After Crash Splits Car In Half: Sheriff

The impact of the BMW's second collision Tuesday evening caused the car to split in half and eject the 19-year-old driver, officials said.

MONTGOMERY, IL — A 19-year-old Aurora man died Tuesday evening after he was ejected from his BMW, which split in half from the force of a collision on Route 30 near Montgomery, officials said.

The BMW was traveling west on Route 30, near Orchard Road, at high speed and rear-ended a Nissan Rogue going in the same direction, officials said, based on the initial investigation. The Nissan veered off the road and rolled over.

The BMW continued driving west for a short distance before it entered the eastbound lane, crashing into a Chevy Malibu. The force of the crash caused the BMW to split in half, and the driver, Alex Garcia-Roguel, to be ejected from the car, officials said.

The investigation remains open, and no citations have been issued. Detectives have not determined if drugs, alcohol or texting were factors in the crash, but "it is clear that excessive speed by the BMW was a major contributing factor into this crash," officials said.
