More Caterpillar Layoffs At Kendall Plant
The layoffs come two years after a manufacturing line closed at the plant, eliminating another 800 jobs.

OSWEGO TOWNSHIP, IL — Two years after manufacturing ceased at its Oswego Township plant, eliminating 800 jobs, another 400 workers will be laid off ahead of the facility's closing, according to a recent Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) notice. The layoffs will begin April 26 and will be completed by May 10, according to the notice.
Spokeswoman Kate Young told Patch that although the WARN notice indicates 400 workers will be affected by the layoffs, "the late February WARN notice was issued to approximately 40 employees" for the April 26 to May 10 time period, "and overall, there are approximately 400 employees currently at the Aurora facility that will be impacted by the closure over the course of this year."
The plant, located at 325 Route 31 in unincorporated Montgomery, announced the shutdown of its production line in March 2017.

"We are encouraging impacted employees to apply for open positions at other Caterpillar facilities," Young told Kendall County Now. Young previously told the outlet that Caterpillar is working with several parties interested in purchasing the property, which Caterpillar refers to as its Aurora plant.
Editor's note: A Caterpillar spokeswoman contacted Patch to clarify the number and timing of the layoffs.
