Knife Brandished In Neighbor Dispute, Man Injured: Kendall Sheriff

A man, 65, is facing two felony charges after he slashed his neighbor during a dispute in the Boulder Hill subdivision, deputies said.

MONTGOMERY, IL — A Montgomery man, 65, is facing two felony charges after slashing his neighbor with a knife during a dispute June 1, according to officials at the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received a report around 11:42 a.m. of an altercation with a knife that occurred on Fernwood Road in the Boulder Hill subdivision. When they arrived, they rendered aid to a man who was injured with "several significant lacerations."

Investigators made contact with Herman Haehlen, who initially refused to exit his residence, which resulted in Fernwood Road being closed for some time, officials said in a Tuesday news release. The man eventually exited his residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

Deputies' investigation into the incident revealed that the knife altercation stemmed from a dispute with a neighbor during which officials allege Haehlen brandished a utility knife and cut the victim, according to the release.

The incident appears to be isolated between the two men who know each other, officials said, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

After reviewing the case, the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office charged the Montgomery man with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Haehlen was taken to the Kendall County jail and released on Tuesday with pre-trial conditions following a detention hearing.
