Lake Street In Montgomery To Close For Railroad Repairs

A full road closing will be in place next month.

MONTGOMERY, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that a full closure will take place on Lake Street (Illinois 31) at the Burlington Junction Railway (BJR) crossing, in Montgomery, beginning, weather permitting, Saturday, Aug. 4. The closure is necessary to repair the badly deteriorated at-grade railroad crossing.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 4, Lake Street will be fully closed at the railroad tracks at N. Ashland Avenue. A posted detour will direct northbound Lake Street traffic to go west on Aucutt Road, north on Orchard Road (Co Hwy 83), and east on Jericho Road to meet back with Lake Street. Southbound Lake Street traffic should take the reverse route.

The crossing repairs are scheduled to be completed by 7 a.m. Sunday, August 12. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
