Eric Sorensen's primary opponent (wglt.org) — Mount Carroll resident Julie Bickelhaupt has filed as one of two Republicans seeking to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen in the 17th Congressional District next year. A Democratic challenger from Rockford was knocked off the March 2026 primary ballot after a petition objection, which could leave Sorensen without a primary opponent but still facing a contested general election.
