Victim Killed In Naperville Fire Identified

A person was trapped inside a burning home after a fire caused a stairwell to collapse on Redwing Court Tuesday afternoon.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A 75-year-old man was killed and another person was hurt during a fire in a home on Redwing Court Tuesday afternoon. The fire caused the home's stairwell to collapse, which trapped one person inside.

The man who died was identified as Krishna Emmadi.

Fire crews were called to the 3500 block of Redwing Court around 3:15 p.m. for a report of a fire. When they got to the scene, they saw "heavy fire" on the second floor of the house, per a news release.

Upon arrival, firefighters attempted to control the flames to allow them to rescue the trapped resident. They were hindered by the collapsed stairwell and "multiple holes" in the upper floor, according to the news release.

The fire was contained just after 4:30 a.m. Five people were displaced from the home and the injured resident was taken to the hospital. No firefighters were hurt in the blaze, which caused $800,000 in damage to the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Naperville Fire Department shared the following statement, "The Naperville Fire Department wishes to express its sorrow for the loss of life of one of our Naperville community members. We offer our full support to the family and friends of the victim."
