NAPERVILLE, IL — An EF-0 tornado that briefly formed in north Naperville Monday "mainly caused tree damage,"according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

A tornado warning had been issued Monday morning around 10:15 a.m., amid turbulent storms and heavy rainfall throughout the area. Local schools, including District 200 schools in Wheaotn and College of DuPage took shelter during the tornado warning.

Officials from NWS said in a statement, "Monday's event served as a reminder that tornadoes can happen at any time of the year in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, and that some environments are favorable for them to spin up quickly, such as Monday morning's setup (strong turning winds in the atmosphere but little warming at the surface)."
